Symposium Concept Note

Heartlines in partnership with the Wits School of Governance, is hosting a symposium to create a multi-sectoral space for dialogue, reflection, and action on the implications of the Fathers Matter children's research

It seeks to engage educational, legal, and social practitioners, scholars, policymakers, and civil society leaders in critically considering how young people’s voices can and should inform practice, policy, and programming, bringing children’s perspectives into spaces too often dominated by adult assumptions.

Understanding the complexity of children’s experiences requires input from various professionals, including child development experts, educators, and policymakers. Each offers vital insights, such as developmental theories and trauma-informed methods. Combining these perspectives will form an important part of creating a comprehensive approach that respects children’s complex experiences and promotes evidence-based solutions rooted in lived realities.
