Digital media for behaviour change: Review of an emerging field of study
The article examines the growing use of digital media interventions to influence health-related behaviours. It identifies three primary methods employed in this field: i) Digital Media Interventions (using digital platforms to deliver content aimed at promoting behaviour change), ii) Formative Research Using Digital Media (utilising digital tools to gather data that informs the design of effective interventions), and iii) Digital Media for Evaluation (assessing the impact of interventions through digital means). The review highlights applications across various areas, including healthy weight management, tobacco control, and vaccination uptake. It emphasises the need for future research to explore the full potential of digital devices and to rigorously examine factors such as user engagement and exposure frequency to enhance the effectiveness of behaviour change interventions.
