Here they are: the talented candidates of the HEARTLINES 2014 Internship Programme.
We received hundreds of entries from across SA and were truly encouraged by the wealth of talented young people in our country. After a rigorous process of interviews and submissions, we’d like to introduce the three successful candidates of our 8-month internship programme. Welcome to the team, Boitumelo, Lonwabo and Dimakatso!
Some of their key learnings will include:
- Personal growth in the workplace
- Social change through media
- Youth work and social entrepreneurship
- Financial planning and the business of development
- Creating a winning environment
- Social networking and social change
Let’s get to know them a bit better …
Name: Boitumelo Makgoba
I was born and bred in Daveyton. I am studying Public Management and Governance at the University of Johannesburg. Through my internship at HEARTLINES my goal is to aspire and inspire young people before I expire, and show them that with God, hard work and determination anything is possible. In five years’ time I see myself as a social worker because I have a passion for development and seeing people residing under acceptable standards of living.
If I had a superhero power I’d love to be an invisible woman and be able to read people’s minds and change their mindsets to appreciate the little things they have which money can’t buy, such as family, love and happiness.
** Note from Heartlines: Unfortunately, due to growing study commitments, Boitumelo was unable to complete the 2014 Internship Programme. We wish her well with her studies and future career!
Her position has been filled by Thandi Mokhoanatse. **
Name: Lonwabo Jabanga
I am from Willowvalle in Eastern Cape but currently reside in Dobsonville Gardens. I am a recent Bcom Accounting graduate from the University of Johannesburg. From the HEARTLINES internship, I hope to gain as much work experience as I can so I will be ready for the working environment. In 5 years’ time I see myself as a qualified CA, working at a managerial level.
If I had superhero powers, I would choose to have the power to heal because there are too many sick people in Africa with disabilities and diseases that cannot be cured.
Name: Dimakatso Songoane
I was born in Sebokeng, Vaal. In 2004 I moved to the East Rand, Katlehong which is where I’m residing now. I studied Communications at the North-West University, Vaal campus, and completed my studies in 2013. What I hope to achieve from this internship more than anything is to learn, not only about the organisation but also the workplace. HEARTLINES is a professionally driven, well-respected organisation but I also expect to have fun while learning. In 5 years’ time I see myself as a qualified public relations officer, involved with different organisations, doing my bit for social change.
If I could be a superhero, I’d be Spiderman: I like the fact that he can leap from one place to another and that he can sense when danger is on its way.
