Heartlines Comes To Town

The objectives of the programme are to:

  • improve relationships among leaders of positive influence (both formal and informally recognised) in and between all sectors of the community, leading to improved cooperation and coordination.
  • impact positively on one key social issue identified by the community as being a priority (such as crime, lack of economic activity, education, environment, health).
  • contribute to an environment that fosters ethical practice and social action.

The programme will consist of:

Baseline Survey
Working with research specialists from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, we will conduct a baseline survey of each community to map both the key relationships and key social issues.

Foundations for Change Colloquium
Heartlines has developed a leadership colloquium which takes up to 18 leaders though a 3-4 day process in which people review their own values, vision and mission and develop a values-based vision for their community.

Sector specific colloquiums
Each sector would go though a two day process similar to the Foundations of Change colloquium.

Heartlines Youth Academies
This is a week-long event involving leaders, as nominated by students from grade 10, as well as the head master/headmistress and 3 teachers from a school.

We have developed this in partnership with Columba 1400, a Scottish NGO recently named social enterprise of the year in the UK. The Columba model has been highly successful in positively changing dysfunctional schools and leading to positive social change in poor communities.

Ad hoc meetings and events
The Heartlines team will facilitate meetings and events, such as town hall discussions, that will take the process forward. These may include:

  • Community viewings of the Heartlines films followed by discussion.
  • Heartlines speakers at school assemblies.
  • Business people’s breakfast.

Support from the Forgood platform
The forgood platform will be used to support relationship building and project implementation between meetings and colloquiums.

Training events
Heartlines would run training events and distribute materials for Faith Based Organisations, Schools, Municipalities and prisons based on our successful media. All these resources promote the development of good values, ethical practice and social action.

Mentorship programme
Heartlines will actively promote the programme in order to recruit, train and support mentors.
