Following a period of discussions and identification of the right partners with whom to work, Heartlines Comes to Town in Chesterville (Cato Manor, Durban) kicked off with the first Foundations of Change colloquium in September 2010. We have a strong local partner that has worked in the area for the past 20 years, Vukukhanye, an NGO, which has helped us invite the right people to form the Local Organising Committee.
Foundations for Change:
Sixteen local community leaders from different sectors attended the workshop and formed the Local Organising Committee. They decided that they wanted to work on “becoming a healthier Chesterville” and would achieve this through four main aims of youth development, poverty alleviation, actively working on safety and security and improving healthcare. Out of this workshop, the banner “Healthy Chesterville” was adopted as the name for their campaign and movement.
Pioneers of Possibility:
The next step was to run five sector-specific Pioneers of Possibility Colloquiums, namely for Education, Chesterville Street Committes, Business, Faith Based organisations and Civil servants.
These have all taken place and work on the issues is continuing.
