Red Moon Rising
The proven efficacy of 24/7 prayer and the astounding breakthroughs that have resulted from this movement, which was started in Germany in 1727 and lasted for 100 years, have been documented for many centuries throughout the world. The book “Red Moon Rising” by Pete Greig and Dave Roberts provided additional inspiration for HEARTLINES to join the movement
“HEARTLINES is putting together a nationwide network of prayer warriors. We’re hoping to find at least fifty-two churches that will undertake to pray for a week of the year (starting July 2008), with a focus on returning to Biblical values. So far we have at least 230 churches that have expressed interest and which will be trained to set up a prayer chain.
This intercession is not just about the HEARTLINES initiative, but about praying Kingdom values into our communities and seeing God answer. Our prayer should also result in an outworking of compassion and service for those around us.” says Caroline Thomas, Project Manager of Church Partnerships at HEARTLINES.
A Round-the-Clock Prayer Strategy is Born
What started at the foothills of the Magaliesberg in the North West Province at the aptly named “Hebron” conference centre in February, birthed a partnership of like-minded Christians, all with one passion: to see God’s purposes fulfilled for His creation. From afar field as Grahamstown, George and Queenstown, thirty delegates from organisations like Jericho Walls, NEPWO (National Evangelistic Prayer Watch Outreach) and HEARTLINES regional representatives got together to combine their experiences and work out a 24/7 prayer strategy.
Different Societal Sectors Included
Joining forces by networking with existing prayer movements, a decision was taken to also encourage and involve participants from different sectors of society other than the Church.
"By mobilising prayer in sectors such as government, education and business, this can only enhance and broaden the initiative. More than ever the state of our nation needs to be soaked in prayer. By promoting prayer for Godly values countrywide, we are looking forward to, and can anticipate spiritual breakthrough,” says Brian Helsby of HEARTLINES.
Replicating the Prayer Room Concept
Exploring the “Boiler Room” concept in which a dedicated prayer room is set up, delegates signed up for an hour of prayer during the night.
“The prayer room that was set up gave us an idea of how this could be replicated in any environment where prayer is seen as a priority. Those who prayed experienced a very real sense of God’s presence and were inspired by the creative expressions of prayer designed by Jericho Walls.” says Caroline Thomas.
A Testimony to the Power of Prayer
Bishop Peter Sekhonyane of NEPWO powerfully testified to how God had spoken to him about the fundamental importance of prayer in his own nationwide evangelistic ministry. Delegates were further inspired by watching a Transformations film “An Unconventional War” which documents how prayer had brought about change in the devastating effects and work of the Lord’s Resistance Army in Northern Uganda
Energised to Engage in 24/7 Prayer
At the end of the workshops participants and representatives from different regions returned home energised and ready first to set up their own 24/7 prayer watch, in order to train others in this powerful and life-changing ministry.
