SUMMARY
HARD work is everything to Solomon Sithole. It gives him an identity, providing him with self-esteem and a purpose. But Solomon’s sense of identity is challenged when the printing house at which he works closes due to managerial negligence. Too proud to confess his unemployment to his wife, Thabi, and son, Jabu, Solomon takes on manual piece jobs. His deception leads to relations at home becoming strained, with Solomon’s wife suspecting an affair because of her husband’s caginess. Jabu, also suspicious of his father’s behaviour, follows him to work one day – and discovers the truth. Unable to deal with the fact that his son is aware his plight, a shamed Solomon refuses to return home. Jabu, a promising student and accomplished chess player, is hurt and betrayed. For Jabu the money Solomon sends home is no replacement for the father he’s lost. Falling into bad company, Jabu is arrested for peddling drugs. Thabi, desperate to save her son, gives Solomon an ultimatum; reassess your values or lose your family forever.

PENSKETCHES
Patrick Mofokeng – Solomon Sithole
Patrick Mofokeng has appeared in “Isidingo”, “Scandal” and “Back Stage” and has finished shooting “Jerusalem”. He said acting in “The Good Provider” was “mind-blowing”. “I love the way the movie has been done. South Africans should take responsibility for taking charge of their daily lives and always being in control of their emotions.

Nthathi Moshesh – Lindiwe Sithole
Nthathi Moshesh is a television, stage and fiilm actress and a voice over artist. She played the lead in “The Long Run” produced by Anant Singh and “Kini and Adams” directed by Idrissa Ouedrago which was on the official selection list for the Cannes film Festival in 1996. She has also starred in “Cape of Good Hope” directed by Mark Bamford. Her stage work includes “The Blacks”, “Two Can Play” and “Nothing but the Truth”. She has appeared in “7de Laan”, “Homecoming”, “Snitch”, “Interrogation Room”, “Gaz’lam”, “Zero Tolerance” and “Home Affairs I and II.” . She was awarded a coveted Gemini Award for her part in CBC’s blockbuster “Human Cargo”. Moshesh believes the youth especially will benefit from the Heartlines project.

Junior Singo – Jabu Sithole
At the tender age of 16, Junior Singo has appeared in three feature films and two television series. For his first role as “Musa” in the coming-of-age movie “Beat the Drum”, he won a Best Newcomer award at the Monaco International Film Festival and a Best Actor gong at the Newport Beach Film Festival in California. In his review of the movie, reviewer Eugene Hernandez of Indiewire called Singo a “true star… like the young girl in “Whale Rider”, through his eyes and his experiences we are transported”. His other films are “The Wooden Camera” and In My Country in which he plays Hollywood heavyweight Samuel L. Jackson’s son.

Zakhele Stanley Mabasa – Sipho
Mabasa has appeared in “Yizo-Yizo II” and “Isidingo”. He says “The Good Provider” will teach the youth much. “The Good Provider does not only focus on reality, but also has an impact on the rest of the world.”

Archie Nhlapo – Dust Kid #1
Archie Nhlapo initially auditioned for the part of the main character, but was instead giving the role of Dust kid #1. He has just recently completed short stints in “Backstage” and“Soul Buddies”. Says Nhlapo: “This was my first time as an actor playing kind of a different role, because directors always tend to give me innocent roles to portray. I still can’t believe my luck as to land a part in “The Good Provider” because I was able to work with well-known South African actors, like Junior Singo.”

Thabiso Goxo – Dust Kid #3
Thabiso Goxo, 19, has appeared in “Muvhango” as well as several Coca-Cola commercials.

Septula Sebogodi – Sithole’s Neighbour
Sebogodi has also appeared in “Scandal”. He says as Heartlines is long overdue as it will teach South Africans to value life. “South Africa is still going through a healing stage, but things have definitely changed. The term Rainbow Nation only started making sense to me recently when I realised my white next-door neighbour was happy to be part of the country. People have learned to be more tolerant of each other and the changes you see daily in South Africa, show us that we are doing something right as a nation.”
